GrayLeigh Alpacas is situated on the glorious New England Tablelands, 10 mins from the renowned town of Deepwater.
We enjoy a distinct four seasons and temperatures range between 30 degrees in summer and down to minus 10 in winter. Our alpacas enjoy an altitude of around 1200 meters.
The property ‘GrayLeigh’ is 1800 acres of undulating valleys to steeper natural bushland, the alpaca accommodation is around two hundred acres of well-fenced paddocks each with dams and shelters. When it is really cold they can be housed in our barn, which is well equipped with stables and even a wood heater!
GrayLeigh is owned by two sisters, each focusing on the different types of alpacas, suri and huacaya. What started 18 months ago with two pregnant females has grown to a herd of now over 28. Alpacas definitely should be sold with a warning that they are addictive! We aim to remain a small stud so that our animals are well handled and halter trained, making husbandry easier.
Tammurah’s focus is on breeding superfine suris, in white and grey. We see ourselves as helping to preserve this stunning creature, and each cria we breed contributes to increasing numbers globally. We aim to produce suris of robust conformation with fine fleeces that remain fine, and exhibit lustre and density.
Jade has chosen to breed huacayas in grey and black. There is a niche market for these beautiful natural alpaca colours and we aim to breed quality grey and black with fine fleeces. We have chosen proven grey and black genetics for this herd, and look forward to an exciting future in breeding for these colours.
We welcome discussing our journey and goals with other newcomers, and existing alpacaholics! You are very welcome to contact us, and we also are happy to arrange farm visits by appointment.
GrayLeigh Alpacas are members of the Australian Alpaca Association and participate in regional events and shows, even those further afield.
Mozart is the son of renowned National Champion Surilana Nureryev, and is living up to his sires reputation.
